M6 closure Bolton man sustains minor injuries in crash
A 58-YEAR-OLD man from Bolton sustained 'minor injuries' following a serious crash on the M6 shortly after 4am this morning.
Officers were called to reports of a collision between junction 20 and junction 19 involving two HGVs, a Ford Transit van and a silver Mercedes at 4.16am.
The driver of the Mercedes, a man aged 56, was taken to hospital for treatment for serious injuries.
The 58-year-old man from Bolton was driving the Ford Transit while one of the HGV drivers, a 52-year-old woman from Redditch also sustained minor injuries.
Officers are appealing for any information regarding the incident.
The road remains closed causing significant congestion in nearby routes. It is not expected to reopen until tomorrow.
A spokesman from Highways England said: "We're working hard to get three lanes including the hard shoulder re-surfaced at the scene of this incident however will take some time to finish.
"We don't expect the road to be re-opened until early hours tomorrow."
A spokesman from Cheshire Police said: "At 4.16am on Friday August 13 a report was received of a collision on the M6 southbound between junction 20 and junction 19 involving two HGVs, a Ford Transit van and a silver Mercedes.
"The driver of the Mercedes, a 56-year-old man from Newcastle-Under-Lyme, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
"The driver of the Ford Transit a 58-year-old man from Bolton and the driver of one of the HGVs a 52-year-old woman from Redditch both sustained minor injuries.
"Officers are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or may have dashcam footage of the vehicles leading up to or during the incident to get in touch.
"Anyone with information is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 1060103 or report it via the Cheshire Police website.
"Alternatively, information can also be passed on to Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 or report it via the Crimestoppers website."
