Appeal after Leigh house set on fire in suspected arson attack

Police are appealing for information after a suspected arson attack blew out the windows of a house.

At 5.20am on Monday morning (19 July 2021) Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue were called to a fire on Scott Street, Leigh, to reports of a house fire.

Emergency services attended and established a fire had spread through the living room of a house, the intensity of which blew out the living room window.

The fire service brought the fire under control and extinguished it. No injuries have been reported.

Police are treating the incident as arson and appealing to the public for information.

Detective Constable Sean Goddard of Greater Manchester Police's Wigan Division said: "There is evidence to support that this fire has been set deliberately, and the results of this could have been so much more devastating than the material damage caused.

"This fire put many people at risk, including those in neighbouring houses. Our colleagues in the fire service acted quickly to ensure all occupants of nearby houses were safe and well, reporting only smoke damage. "
